Jay Mayne Lewallen


Born in Austin, Texas in 1937, Jay Mayne Lewallen completed his education at the University of Texas at Austin, receiving his Bachelor's, Master's and PhD degrees in Engineering. He accepted employment at NASA, Houston, where he developed the mathematical equations for the first earth-moon trajectories for the lunar landing mission (Apollo Program). He continued his professional career at Texas A&M University and then the Southwest Research Institute of San Antonio, TX as a Vice President and Officer, retiring in 1999.

Upon retirement, he began voluntary work at his Methodist church in the ministries of Stephen Ministry and the Emmaus program, as well as serving on the Administrative Board. In the community, he serves on the Board of Directors, Texas Burn Survivors Society, an organization that provides holistic support for critically burned adults, soldiers and children. His genealogy interests have enabled him to document the lineages necessary for several family members to be approved for membership in the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT), Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and his own membership in SAR. He has been married to Diane Lander Lewallen for almost 50 years, with two children and four grandchildren.
