Joseph Barker, Jr. was from Boxborough, MA; a farmer; and went as part of Capt. Isaac Davis' company to the Old North Bridge. He was only a Minute Man for about 20 days during this defense, and then went back to farming. There is a quote in the story from his eldest child, Mehitable who had an extraordinary memory and lived to be 101 years old. Her recollection is in the story. Davis died at the Old North Bridge, and Capt. Hayward took over the battle and the company. Joseph and his wife Ruth, had 11 children.
