Fire Chief San Antonio Fire Department
A Message from the Fire Chief
When I was appointed Fire Chief for the City of San Antonio Fire Department, I eagerly accepted the task of leading one of the nation's largest fire rescue departments. I believe strongly that the fire service plays an important role in the well being of our citizens. To be effective in this role, SAFD must continue to evolve as an organization— keeping up with firefighting trends, using the best technology, and finding more efficient and effective ways to provide service.
SAFD has a renewed commitment to providing emergency services at the highest level, while doing business in a more efficient manner. I have emphasized the importance of both internal and external customer service, along with a focus on training and safety for our Firefighters. My staff and I will continue to develop new ways to meet the demands of the community, while keeping the San Antonio Fire Department on the cutting edge of fire service.
Future Speakers will be :
November 17th, 2010: Speaker - Christopher Long
Professor Chair, History/Theory and Ph.D. Committee
Architecture of the American Revolution Central European Architecture and Design; Modern Design, Architectural Theory; History of Architectural Education; History of Historic Preservation
Professor Long's interests center on modern architectural history, with a particular emphasis on Central Europe between 1800 and the present. Trained in history rather than architecture, his approach borrows from cultural and intellectual history, as well as political and economic history. He has studied questions of cultural representation in architecture, the larger ideological context of late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century architectural theory, and the development of architectural education. Long's interests also include modern design in Austria, the Czech lands, and the United States. He has worked on several exhibitions and publishes widely on a diverse range of subjects.
